The Game Warden series is one of the most popular knife series ever produced by PUMA. In about 1968 PUMA produced the Plainsman, Model 970 and 971. In the second quarter of 1970 and for only one quarter from what we can tell, the Plainsman was renamed to the Planter. In the third quarter of 1970, the model name was changed again to become the Game Warden becoming one of the best selling in the series of American / Canadian style folding knives.
All of the models (Plainsman, Planter and Game Warden) carry the same model number. The Game Warden however added two variations and gave these models the numbers 972 with the second blade and 973 with the gutting style blade. These last two models are very rare and a collector favorite.
