The Catamount is a limited edition knife with a restricted distribution of 222 pieces world-wide. It commemorates the 222 year anniversary of PUMA. (1769-1991). It is a knife seldom seen in the market place and rarely offered for sale by collectors. It is a beautiful designed knife, very popular, and usually gets a premium price when traded.
The knife is an integral knife cut from one piece of 154 CM Stainless Steel. It is one of the first knives made by PUMA not produced in the hot forging process. Material is removed or cutaway from the knife by machine. This was a very difficult and costly knife for PUMA to produce as the material is the same as used in ball bearings. The handles are made from Laminated Maple (Fibron Ahorn in German). A special insert in the handle on the reverse side acts as a locking mechanism to the sheath.
Other knives in this design class include the Ironman, Defender, Defender LM, Defender Damast, Cougar and Cougar Damast. All of these knives, while having the same design, have individual charateristics different from the Catamount and made in later years.
